I founded Problem Solvers Math Consulting to support teachers, students, parents, and leaders in viewing math as a problem-solving activity, developing a positive math identity, and increasing confidence in their mathematical content knowledge. With more than 25 years of experience teaching elementary and middle school students, I have seen the impacts of low math confidence and an overwhelming fear and anxiety for all things math.  I believe that everyone can learn math, especially when it is presented as an applicable problem- solving task and when it is presented in a way that allows the learner to connect in a way that makes sense individually for them.  

 

The elementary school years are a critical time for students to learn math in an environment where it is safe to share their thinking, communicate mathematically,  collaborate with their peers, ask their questions as they come, and experience the fun of success in math.
